Ontario Comes Up with Numerous Green Energy Projects

As per the feed-in tariff program of the Green Energy Act, the province of Ontario has seen the approval of 184 novel contracts for green-energy projects. Previously, 510 green-energy projects were approved. These projects can together produce over 2,500 MW of electricity, sufficient to run 600,000 homes. These projects will attract private sector investments of around $9 billion. Ontario is known for its solar photovoltaic and wind power capacity.

The project contracts were announced by Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of Ontario in Cornwall, Ontario. The Cornwall area saw the approval of 60 green energy projects having 900 MW of capacity. Three of the Cornwall-region solar projects include Northland Power in Cornwall, Penn Energy in South-Glengarry Township and Effisolar in South-Glengarry Township, with 10 MW capacity each.

Dalton stated that Ontario has aggressive, practical policies that are ideal for green energy production and research. As part of the Open Ontario Plan of the government, the Green Energy Act of Ontario helps create over 50,000 clean-energy jobs in Ontario.
