Toronto-Dominion Bank Continues to Focus on Funding Renewable Energy Projects

Some of the lending businesses of Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) are funding renewable energy projects that have received approval by the microFIT program of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). The microFIT program encourages the creation of small-scale renewable power (10 kW or below), especially by means of rooftop solar energy systems. As on date, the OPA’s microFIT program has attracted over 8,000 applications.

Small business owners, retailers, agricultural businesses, schools, solar panel installers and manufacturers, and utilities among others approach TD to discuss about their financial needs for renewable energy systems, primarily solar power systems.

The Chief Environment Officer of TD Karen Clarke-Whistler believes that most businesses and homes, irrespective of their size, will have rooftop solar panels in the next 10 years.

TD is a fully carbon-neutral bank and is also a major renewable energy purchaser in Canada. TD buys renewable energy certificates equal to the electrical energy used by all its operations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and British Columbia, in addition to its 2,700 Green Machine ABMs.
