Reliant Energy Purchases Texas Renewable Energy Credits

Reliant Energy is purchasing Texas renewable energy credits (RECs), in recognition of the April 22 Earth Day, to meet the electricity requirements of its business and residential customers across Texas for that day.

Renewable energy credits gets created when electrical energy is produced utilizing renewable energy sources including biomass, hydro or solar energy. The RECs bought by Reliant Energy customers come from the Langford Wind Power Project of NRG Energy having 150 MW capacity in Abilene, Texas.

Moreover, Reliant Energy will donate $25 to a non-profit organization EarthShare of Texas for every customer who joins for a novel 100% wind package from the company during April 18 to 24.

EarthShare of Texas supports over 70 conservation and environmental groups such as The Nature Conservancy, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, the Galveston Bay Foundation, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and Clean Water Fund of Texas.

Reliant Energy provides customers with the option of choosing completely Texas-generated wind packages. Moreover, all of the company’s new packages include 20% Texas-generated wind.
