University Park Community Solar Purchases Photovoltaic Electric System

University Park Community Solar LLC, a community of people, has purchased a photovoltaic electric system with 23 kW capacity to be installed on the rooftop of the Church of the Brethren under the Solar Power Purchase Agreement. The system will generate clean energy and decrease the region’s dependence on coal-fired energy from the electricity utility, Pepco which predominantly burns coal for producing electricity to be supplied to the District of Columbia, University Park and other suburbs of the D.C.

The installation of the solar system on the rooftop of the Church is currently being assisted by Standard Solar, Inc. and the installation is scheduled to be completed by next month. Standard Solar has helped University Park Community Solar to identify ideal sites for installing the solar system since homes are not ideal sites and the University Park has lots of tall pine, maple and oak trees.

The 230 W solar panels used for the solar system were manufactured and assembled by Sharp USA at its Memphis, Tennessee facility.
