Pacific Gas and Electric Company to Introduce Solar Photovoltaic Program

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) intends to implement a novel solar photovoltaic (PV) program, which recently received approval from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

The program will produce around 500 MW of renewable, clean energy, sufficient to power 150,000 homes in the Central and Northern Californian service areas of PG&E.

This five-year program will comprise around 250 MW of electricity of utility-owned PV production and an additional 250 MW offered by independent developers by means of a streamlined regulatory process.

The program targets moderate-sized projects varying from 1 to 20 MW and should need minimal time to design and construct. The projects will be solely owned by PG&E and will be ideally located close to company substations so as to reduce the delays and costs of interconnecting them with the power grid.
