First Wind Hosts Ken Salazar at its Milford Wind Corridor Project

Wind energy company First Wind has hosted Ken Salazar, U.S. Secretary of the Interior, at its Milford Wind Corridor project in Utah.

The Milford Wind Corridor project, located in Beaver and Millard counties, has 204 MW capacity. The project is one of the few wind energy facilities permitted under the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wind Energy Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of the U.S. Department of Interior for states located in the Western area of the U.S. The project, which commenced commercial operation in 2009, features 97 wind turbines. As of today, the Milford Wind Corridor project has helped create over 250 construction and development jobs and has contributed over $85 million to the economy of Utah.

The Milford Wind Corridor project’s first phase has the potential to produce sufficient clean energy to power around 45,000 homes annually. Currently, the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) purchases the power being generated through the project on behalf of Pasadena and Burbank cities as well as the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).
