DECC Receives NPL Funding for Extending Trials with the Deep Green Tidal Current Plant

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has awarded NPL, energy technology company Minesto, and IT Power more than £500,000 from in the second round of the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund. The funding will be used for extending the quarter scale ocean trials with the Deep Green tidal current power plant in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland, to validate its commercial performance.

New Record Set for CdTe Solar Cell Conversion Efficiency by First Solar

First Solar, Inc. today announced it has set a world record for cadmium-telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic (PV) solar cell conversion efficiency, achieving 20.4 percent conversion efficiency certified at the Newport Corporation’s Technology and Applications Center (TAC) PV Lab and confirmed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
