The Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank of United States has approved a US $32.1 million loan guarantee for export of wind turbine blades produced by LM Wind Power Blades to wind turbine manufacturer, Wind Power Energia based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The loan guarantee is in compliance with the congressional mandate to augment support for export of renewable energy.
ABB, one of the foremost organizations in power and automation, has entered into a contract valued at about $55 million with Brazilian utility Eolicas do Sul to provide three new substations and transmission infrastructure. Over the years, Brazil has been dependent on hydropower. The undertaking with ABB is the Brazilian government’s endeavour to enhance wind power to avail additional energy.
The first turbine has been installed at Green Mountain Power’s (GMP) Kingdom Community Wind Project. This is the first of 21 turbines of 3.0-MW capacity to be installed at Lowell Mountain, Vermont.
Global Blade Technology (GBT) has announced that it has collaborated with Flessak Energia Eolica Ltd (FEEL) of Francisco Beltrão, Brazil and has started a new company named - GBT do Brasil Equipamentos Eolicos (GBTB). A new plant is to be built in Brazil near Toledo.
An independent wind energy company, First Wind has completed the construction of its Kaheawa Wind II project and has commenced commercial operations. The 21 MW project includes a novel battery energy storage system designed for controlling the fluctuations that occur during output of wind energy.
German wind turbines kill more than 200,000 bats every year. These mortality rates are quite high and may lead to significant decline in their population. The death of bats may not be sustainable.
According to IEEE members, algae are a potential sustainable energy source to address ever-increasing global energy demands. Moreover, they are also involved in new developments in well-established technologies such as smart grid and wind power to deliver reliable and eco-friendly energy worldwide.
The governments of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) are stepping up efforts to cut back carbon emissions and increase the share of renewable energy in the countries' energy mix. Australia has mandated that 20 per cent of its electricity be generated from renewable sources by 2020 and to this end, has introduced renewable energy targets (RET). This policy is the biggest incentive for investments in wind power in the country. However, uncertainty in RET in Australia and the absence of new policy approaches in New Zealand have hindered the market from making optimal use of these policies.
The fully automated service provides weather predictions for specific wind turbines. Meteo-Logic forecasts are designed to offer a highly professional solution to wind farms operators, planners and consulting companies.
