Fortis America offers the Montana 3.1m wind turbine. This small-sized wind turbine is meant for use in individual homes and small business establishments.
The wind turbine uses three number of blades measuring 2.35 m and the blades are made of fiberglass-reinforced epoxy. The rotor diameter of this wind turbine is 5.0 m and provides a peak rated output of 5.8 kW in 17 m/s wind speed. The Montana 3.1m wind turbine covers a sweep area of 19.63 m². The maximum rated speed of this wind turbine is 450 rpm. The rotor axis angle of this wind turbine is 10º and the cone angle is 0º.
The Montana 3.1m wind turbine provided by the Fortis America has a rigid hub and utilizes fixed pitch control for controlling the speed of the wind turbine. This model incorporates a permanent magnet alternator type of generator. This model has a 48 VDC battery for storing the generated current. This wind turbine has 1Ø 240VAC or 3Ø 208VAC line-to-line or 3Ø 277VAC line-to-neutral type of grid connection option. This wind turbine can be stopped by utilizing mechanical braking by furling of inclined hinge tail vane or by using electrical braking by managing the alternator output. The yaw control of this wind turbine is managed by a passive alighment of tail vane.
The Montana 3.1m wind turbine utilizes guyed-lattice, monopole or freestanding-lattice type of towers. Total weight of this wind turbine is 200 kg and each blade weighs 30 kg. For controlling the load this wind turbine incorporates a SMA protection box with corresponding resistive diversion load.
