SunPower Corp., a producer of efficient solar panels, solar cells and solar systems, is constructing a solar facility for Solar Green Energy-SGE having 1.3 MW capacity in the region of Lazio in Italy. Solar Green Energy-SGE is a joint venture between Italian project developer Emmecidue and EDF Energies Nouvelles subsidiary EDF-EN Italia.
SunPower Corp. will install its solar panels of 96-cell, E 18 / 305 with at least 18% efficiency on SunPower T0 Tracker systems at the 4.7-ha facility at Ferentino, Frosinone province. In comparison with fixed-tilt systems, the tracker provides around 25% more energy.
EDF-EN Italia utilizes SunPower E 18 series solar panels having high efficiency at 6.5 MW of solar energy plants presently operating in Italy. Moreover, EDF-EN Italia is installing a surplus 2.8 MW of SunPower technology meant for energy plants that are under construction.
Globally, SunPower Corp. has large solar energy systems of over 550 MW under contract or installed including the 24-MW facility in Montalto di Castro, Italy. Recently, SunPower Corp. acquired solar power plant developer SunRay Renewable Energy which will help the company expand its solar power plant projects pipeline to over 1,200 MW in France, Spain, Israel, Italy, Greece and the U.K.
