Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica has announced that 348 of the company’s self-service stores, restaurants and pricing clubs in Mexico City, Mexico State and Morelos will utilize wind energy produced from "Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm", situated in La Ventosa, Oaxaca.
The CEO and Executive President of Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica Scot Rank stated that the “Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm” will help the company meet its target of operating all of its units with renewable energy by 2025. This wind farm helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 137,000 tons, equivalent of removing 21,000 vehicles from the roads.
The opening ceremony of the “Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm” was attended by Energy Secretary Georgina Kessel; Federal Electricity Commission’s General Director Alfredo Elias Ayub; Energy Regulating Commission’s President Francisco Javier Salazar; and Electrica del Valle de Mexico Director Thomas Mueller among others.
The “Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm” was constructed in a partnership between Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica and Electrica del Valle de Mexico with the former implementing, supplying and installing the project. The farm has 27 turbines of 2.5 MW capacity and produces 67.5 MW.
The “Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm” is part of the commitment of the company to sustainability that includes producing zero-pollutant water discharges by means of reusing, reducing and recycling waste.
