ProLogis Partners with Southern California Edison on Solar Panel Project

ProLogis and Southern California Edison (SCE) have entered into an agreement to place around 40% of the 250 MW solar panel project of SCE on the rooftops of ProLogis distribution warehouse in the region of Inland Empire in Southern California.

As per the agreement, over a half-million solar panels are likely to be installed on roof space of 15 million sq. ft. Installation of the panels is scheduled to commence in 2010 on a rooftop structure in the Redlands Distribution Center and four rooftop structures of the Ontario Airport complex.

The President of SCE John Fielder stated that the first installation project was on a building of ProLogis in Fontana, California that currently offers 2 million W of clean power to the grid of SCE.

The solar stations of SCE are connected to its neighborhood grid supplying the solar energy to customers. This part of the project is likely to bring considerable smart grid enhancements to the neighborhood distribution circuitry of SCE.

The senior vice president of SCE for the Transmission and Distribution division commented that the transmission system developed by the grid engineers of SCE provides around 13 billion kWh of renewable production to customers annually.

The SCE solar projects are likely to create around 1,200 novel green jobs in the solar industry in Southern California. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is one of the project partners of SCE.
