Nevada Geothermal Power Purchases Edna Geothermal Project

At a lease sale of the Nevada State Bureau of Land Management on May 11, 2010, Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. acquired the Edna Geothermal Project on an area of 12 square miles in Nevada’s Pumpernickel Valley in Humboldt County.

The Edna Geothermal Project is situated close to the Pumpernickel Valley Geothermal Project of Nevada Geothermal Power and the Valmy power plant that is owned by Idaho Power and NV Energy.

Nevada Geothermal Power identified the Edna Geothermal Project in 2009. Research activities and field exploration signified a favorable structural and geological setting. Geochemistry analysis of brine taken from a hot well situated within the newly bought lease area indicates geothermal reservoir temperatures ranging between 196 and 203°C. Temperature measurements taken at a depth of 345 m within that well indicated a thermal gradient of 128°C/km.
