On May 20, 2010, a ribbon cutting function was held celebrating the installation of solar panels in an Arizona area of El Chorro Lodge, a traditional fine-dining establishment. The celebration included speakers from REC Solar, El Chorro Lodge and the mayor’s office. The participants also took a trip to view the solar monitoring system and the panels.
The solar system with 142 kW capacity was built with the assistance of REC Solar using 648 REC220 panels. Over the course of its lifetime, this system is likely to generate 5,344,719 kWh of clean energy and decrease around 7.5 million lbs. of greenhouse gas emissions.
Marius Kroksjø, the Regional Director USA of REC Group, commented that after having installed the modules for El Chorro Lodge, the group intends to continue working with the government and businesses in the region in an effort to assist economic development by making solar power more accessible and creating jobs.
Currently, El Chorro Lodge, with the help of REC Solar, offsets over half of its energy consumption every year.
