BLT Enterprises has provided a contract to Solar Power, Inc. for designing and constructing a photovoltaic (PV) solar system with 397 kW capacity to supply power for Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station (“FRTS”) of BLT Enterprises situated in Fremont, California.
The FRTS takes care of the disposal and recycling requirements for the residents in the cities of Union City, Newark and Fremont. In 2009, the FRTS recycled around 14,000 tons of material that included sufficient paper for saving 182,000 trees and sufficient plastic soda bottles for making 68,000 fleece jackets.
Solar Power will be in charge of designing and constructing the solar system that will comprise mounting 1,776 solar modules on parking shade and rooftop racking structures. This system is likely to generate over 576,000 kWh of electrical energy and result in savings of $128,000 during the first year of functioning. Moreover, the electrical utility expenses incurred in operating the FRTS will be reduced by over $4.24 million during the course of 25 years. The environmental offsets produced during the first year of operation of the solar system will be equivalent to avoiding 447 metric tons of carbon emissions and preserving forest area of 3.1 acres.
