Power generation company Alstom has conducted a ceremony with local, state and county officials as well as the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation officials, marking the construction of the company’s wind turbines nacelle assembly plant spanning 115,000 sq. ft. in Amarillo, Texas.
This plant is likely to generate 275 full-time jobs in the areas of production, engineering and technical support in Amarillo, Texas. The plant is likely to be functional by 2011.
At a press conference recently conducted at the American Wind Energy Association, Alstom indicated the role played by the Amarillo plant in its commitment to the wind power market of North America.
Workers of the plant in Amarillo will be responsible for assembling the "nacelles" that is the gearbox, control systems and generator that constitute a wind turbine. These nacelles will then be shipped to locations where they will be joined together with a tower and blades for creating the wind turbine generator. The ALSTOM PURE TORQUE wind power technology of the company provides higher operational availability, lower maintenance expenses and higher gearbox reliability.
