Hydro to Increase Hydropower Production Capacity by 10%

Norway’s second-largest hydropower producer, Hydro, is slated to increase its energy production by about 300 GWh. This fall, the company plans to launch its new hydropower project at Holsbru. For its two projects in Sogn, Hydro has completed the delivery of concession applications.

The concession applications have been floated for the construction of a power plant and pump power plant at Øyane and Ilvatn, respectively. Both locations are in the Fortun Valley of Sogn. The Øyane plant is expected to 98 GWh of hydropower, while the plant at Ilvatn is slated for 113 GWh. The Holsbru plant will contribute 84 GWh to Hydro’s power production. Hydro currently generates an average of 9.4 TWh power per year.

According to Hydro’s Energy head, Ola Sæter, in the next few years, the company aims to increase its hydropower production capacity by up to 10%. The projects in Sogn are already working towards this goal.
