Suntech has launched Victoria-Suntech Advanced Solar Facility (VSASF), an advanced solar facility in Melbourne, Australia. Gavin Jennings, Victoria’s minister for environment and climate change, and innovation,, commemorated the event.
The solar facility is a joint venture between Suntech Power Holdings and Swinburne University of Technology. The facility will serve as the platform for commercializing NANOPLAS, a revolutionary solar cell technology now developed through the collaboration between Suntech and Swinburne. The NANOPLAS technology allows for collection solar energy from a wide range of colours in the spectrum, making it more efficient and less costly compared to other solar cells available in the market.
Throughout every stage in research and development, Suntech and Swinburne researchers will work closely to ensure that the nanoplasmonic technology is easily transferred to the production line. Zhengrong Shi, who will be heading the VSASF, believes that a combination of Swinburne’s strong research capabilities and Suntech's excellent manufacturing platform will help in developing innovative technologies while bringing down the cost of solar energy.
