An anemometer has been installed on an elevated location on Cobb Neck in Maryland State by the Maryland Environmental Service in an effort to turn the peninsula of Cobb Neck into a wind-dependent region. Over the coming year, this digital device will provide information for determining if the site generates sufficient wind for making a turbine feasible.
Located close to a residential wind turbine namely the Windmill on the Potomac, the wind turbine of Cobb Neck, if and when constructed, will produce around 1-2.4 MW of electricity.
The owners of the Windmill on the Potomac, Ken Robinson and Sheryl Elliott, have witnessed considerable amount of electricity being generated by the windmill. Ken, the Swan Point Property Owners Association’s earlier president, has approached residents in close by communities to find out if they would be interested in partnering on this project. Wayne Lindstrom, a Newburg resident, owns the land area for this anemometer and the probable future turbine.
The state of Maryland has entrusted the Maryland Environmental Service with the responsibility of offering communities with the capability to create cost-effective, innovative and sustainable ‘green’ solutions.
