Suchitra Sriram, Frost & Sullivan’s program manager said that solar PV systems offer the ideal solution for green power generation in power deficient Southeast Asia regions. In Southeast Asia, extending grid coverage to isolated regions is neither economically nor technically feasible.
The growing interest of urban users to use green energy solutions and strong government support are key factors driving increased adoption of solar PV systems. Other factors that boost market opportunities in Southeast Asia include favorable topography, where sufficient solar radiation is available throughout the year.
To accelerate the market of solar PV systems in Asia Pacific, it is necessary for countries to streamline the policy structure, set realistic targets, and enhance customer awareness. When the production costs drop and solar PV systems gain popularity over time, installation costs will decline, resulting in large-scale commercialization. As a result, new players will enter the solar industry.
Sriram also noted that it is vital for solar companies to improve the industry’s growth by offering efficient PV components and creating a sound technical workforce. The participants need to ensure timely product delivery and offer superior maintenance services as well.
