Ohio Legislature Passes Clean Energy Tax Reform

The vote on June 3, 2010, by the Ohio House demonstrated the bipartisan commitment of Ohio to bring clean energy and new jobs in local communities competing for renewable power projects.

The Wind and Solar Jobs for Ohio coalition indicated that Sub Senate Bill 232 passed the House by a 91-7 vote and the final reconciled bill had gone to Governor Ted Strickland.

The American Wind Energy Association’s manager in charge of economic development partnerships Brad Lystra opined that this vote positions Ohio to create thousands of local operations, construction, maintenance and manufacturing employment opportunities in the wind sector.

The passage of this bill was essential to bringing the tax structure of Ohio for wind development facilities equal with that of neighboring states.

Brad added that by removing this tax disadvantage, the lawmakers of Ohio have bolstered the renewable sector and have secured millions in novel tax revenue. Moreover, the ailing manufacturing sector of Ohio will receive a considerable lift from the wind turbine component orders.
