Tokyo Electron and Unidym to Jointly Develop Manufacturing Equipment for Solar Cells

Unidym, an Arrowhead Research subsidiary, has finalized a contract with Tokyo Electron for developing manufacturing equipment meant for carbon nanotube-based solar cells and displays. Tokyo Electron is a manufacturer of semiconductor production equipment and is one of the pioneers in the technology of wet coating. Currently, Unidym is expanding the applications of CNT into the PV, display and electronics markets.

The CEO and President of Unidym Mark Tilley commented that the collaboration with Tokyo Electron is essential in offering a comprehensive solution to the company’s customers in the solar and LCD industries.

Tokyo Electron’s marketing group leader for the Flat Panel Display business unit Taku Kawauchi stated that combining the company’s coating platform solution with the CNT ink of Unidym will provide an ideal solution to customers.

As per the contract, Tokyo Electron and Unidym will create a coating tool for solar and LCD producers to use in coating the electronic inks of Unidym into their devices. The two companies have plans to market the coating equipment and CNT electronic inks to their combined customers.
