Trina Solar Limited and Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) have entered into a research agreement to develop an efficient all-back-contact silicon wafer solar cell using monocrystalline wafers of Trina Solar. The contacts are printed on the rear surface of the cell, to increase sunlight exposure on the front surface.
Trina Solar targets to achieve a production efficiency of up to 21.5% and laboratory test efficiency of up to 23.5%, completing of the project in three years. Trina Solar will bear the research project’s cost, in exchange of the intellectual property rights of the project.
Dr. Huang Qiang, technology vice president of Trina Solar, is pleased with the collaboration with SERIS on the development of solar cell process technology. Huang expressed confidence that Trina Solar’s manufacturing capabilities combined with SERIS’ quality research will result in the development of high-efficiency solar cells.
Prof Armin Aberle, SERIS’ Silicon Photovoltaics Cluster Director, stated that SERIS is eager to join hands with Trina Solar in the development of solar cell technology. Aberle said that their technology would be available for commercial production in the next 3 years.
