New Generation Biofuels Holdings Inc., a renewable fuels provider, has received approval from the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners for a boiler evaluation and test of the proprietary biofuel of the company in two public schools in Baltimore City over a period of one year.
This program, with a maximum volume of 1,000,000 gallons can well be increased to around 2,000,000 gallons, upon agreement between the two parties concerned.
Earlier successful tests have shown that, on a comparison with biodiesel and fossil diesel, the company’s second generation biofuel displayed a reduction in sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide. The new agreement follows these tests as part of the program of Baltimore in renewable fuels evaluation for schools as well as other buildings. Tests conducted in the Columbia boiler of the Eastern Health Center with a Sun-Ray burner indicated more than 40% reduction in nitrogen oxide and more than 90% reduction in sulfur oxide, while tests conducted in the HB Smith cast iron boiler of the Pimlico Police Training Center have shown more than 60% reduction in nitrogen oxide.
The company’s biofuel is made from animal fats or recycled plant oils to form a blended product. This biofuel is an ideal replacement for kerosene, fuel oils, no. 2 heating oil and diesel. Other benefits of this biofuel include overall reduction in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and significantly lower emissions when compared with the traditional fuels.
