The province of Ontario has highlighted its commitment to green jobs, energy and investment. Brad Duguid, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure for Ontario, has visited the SunE Sky Ryerse solar park in the Norfolk County, Ontario which is one among the two parks under construction, with an overall combined 18 MW solar energy capacity.
Two firms, namely, SkyPower Limited and MEMC Electronic Materials have entered into a joint venture with SunEdison for the development of the solar parks.
On March this year, construction of the parks commenced with an approximate capital investment in the range of $80 million to $90 million and is headed for completion this fall. Jointly, the solar parks are anticipated to generate clean electricity in excess of 19 million kWh during its operation in the first year, and over the next 20 years, the parks would generate close to 400 million kWh. On a conversion basis, this will work out to electricity produced for powering about 33,000 homes and also avoiding more than 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, thus emphasizing on environmental protection in the long term.
