Diversified manufacturing company, Chant Engineering, announced that it has commenced operation of its new solar energy system, which is the company’s initiative for energy cost reduction. The 122 kilowatt (kW) solar system is roof-mounted and the largest in Bucks County to be installed with funds from Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Rebate Program.
Mercury Solar Systems, in addition to design and installation, assisted Chant Engineering in securing Federal and State grants for the solar power project. Univest National Bank & Trust provided additional financing.
The newly installed solar system features 2 inverters and 512 solar panels. The system is expected to generate 131,868 kilowatt hours (kWh) of power per year, enough to meet the company’s annual electricity requirements. . Excess power, if any, will be routed to the electric grid. With this solar installation, Chant Engineering’s savings are expected to be equivalent to crude oil savings of about 3,200 gallons.
In the past few years, the company has implemented several initiatives for energy cost reduction. Deploying a solar energy system for this purpose seems to be a natural progression in its mission towards achieving efficiency and sustainability.
Chant Engineering’s solar initiative is a part of its green conversion drive that commenced with the opening of its New Britain headquarters. The new building was designed based on norms set forth by U.S. Green Building Council. Green construction techniques such as sensor-controlled high efficiency lighting, rainwater harvesting and thermal insulation have been used.
