China Wind Power Generation to Grow

Wind energy generation capacity in China is forecasted to grow at an annual growth rate of 36% by the close of 2010, thus ranking it the second best country in the world, comments National Development and Reform Commission’s vice minister Zhang Guobao.

In 2009, of the overall national energy capacity, 7.8% included nuclear, solar and wind power systems in the non-fossil category. China’s strategy is to develop a low-carbon economy by way of clean energy while including aspects such as wind energy development and the construction of offshore wind turbines in Shanghai.

The development drive toward novel energy such as wind energy will assist China in reducing carbon emissions while protecting the environment. The wind energy generation capacity of the country is likely to reach 30 million kW in 2010 as against 22 million last year. The identification of ideal locations such as coastal regions has been identified by firms for finding a way into potential markets.
