Telecom service provider and Mobile operator Telenor Pakistan is likely to develop into a pioneer operator with the commissioning of the largest solar powered telecommunication network, that is anticipated to launch its operations in Universal Service Fund aided locations.
In entirety Telenor Pakistan has completed 50 solar powered mobile communication locations out of which 47 are located in USF aided areas of Bahawalpur, Khas and Mirpur. The new solar powered installations will profit nearly 1.63 million people who are domiciled in the above cities and did not encompass such a category of telecommunication access. The other three solar powered sites are located in Pukhtoonkhwa, Khyber and Islamabad.
The USF is a government endowment to offer fundamental telephony and data services in underserved and uncovered locations.
The latest solar powered mobile communication sites are the consequence of Telenor Pakistan’s Green Energy enterprise to provide eco friendly telecom solutions and to avert an average of 2.5 tons of CO2 emissions per site in a year and reduce the burden on the national grid. Conversing with reference to the project, Telenor Pakistan’s Chief Technology Officer, Khalid Shehzad articulated his pleasure in instituting the solar powered cell network in Mirpur Khas and Bahawalpur, the USF aided locations, and wanted additional remote areas to be exposed to the same, and ,on conclusion said that the company has plans to venture into more such environment friendly solutions.
