Electrical Contractors Enhance Skills for Green Building Requirements

As support for wind, solar and other renewable energy resources continues to increase, more electrical contractors are getting trained on the required skills for green building.

A recent edition of the ‘Electrical Contractor’ magazine indicates that as more private, public enterprises and utilities support wind farms and solar energy that connect to the energy grid along with fuel cells and geothermal biomass, training is the major priority to enable electricians for wiring the plants, designing and installing the technology.

O’Connell Electric Co. Inc. based in Victor, N.Y., after entering into the solar sector in 2002, has trained its electricians in roof and solar work and was also engaged in wind-generation activity four years ago.

Tim Ehmann, the senior project manager of O’Connell Electric, commented that the company has conducted around 90% of 20 wind parks in New York. The company has worked on a collection system for the first wind farm of New York, in which the company designed and constructed a substation and power station utilized to decrease voltage to ideal levels for every wind turbine.
