Alstom, a supplier of hydropower services and equipment, has entered into an agreement with Kiewit Alarie Partnership (KAP) for supplying three sets of turbine generators to the Lower Mattagami Project of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in Ontario. KAP is an alliance between Leo Alarie and Sons Construction Ltd. and Peter Kiewit & Sons Co. (Kiewit). This agreement is valued at more than CAN$110 million.
As per the terms of the agreement, Alstom will deliver three sets of hydro turbine generators at the novel Smoky Falls Generating Station, which will replace the present station, thereby considerably customizing the utilization of water. Once installed, the novel turbine generators are likely to have a capacity of 267 MW. This station is one among four other stations to be reconstructed under the CAN$2.6 billion Lower Mattagami Project of OPG.
Under this agreement, Alstom will design as well as supply three novel generating sets, including speed governor systems, static excitation systems, vertical generators, propeller turbines and control and protection systems. Alstom will offer a comprehensive turnkey package that includes commissioning and installation of the units. Key components including generator bars and turbine runners will be produced at the Sorel-Tracy, Quebec-facility of Alstom.
