NTU Awarded Solar Grand Prize for Solar Car Nanyang Venture III

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has been awarded the Solar Grand Prize for its solar car Nanyang Venture III at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2010 event. As its best run, the solar car recorded the maximum energy efficiency of 316.1 km per kWh.

The event, being held for the first time in Asia was conducted at the Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The solar car was ranked 14th in a total of 29 entries under the prototype category that is based upon measuring kilometre units per fuel litre.

The solar car’s capturing ability of solar power and improved aerodynamic features along with a honeycomb composite shell made of light weight carbon fibre had helped it in attaining excellent performance levels. The Nanyang Venture III became the only car to qualify under the solar car segment among five solar cars in the urban concept as well as prototype categories.
