Ontario Solar Projects Get Underway in Full Swing

Solar projects in Ontario are getting underway. EDF EN Canada has commenced construction work on three solar PV projects with an overall capacity of 36 MW. The projects will provide 350 solar engineering and installation jobs.

These three solar projects are anticipated to generate enough electricity for powering about 10,500 homes by 2010 end by means of the Hydro One grid of Ontario. The first two sites are termed as the Elmsley Solar Project that will utilize SunTech solar panels and the third site is termed as the St Isidore Project that will utilize First Solar panels.

The government of Ontario has stimulated investments in these renewable energy projects by streamlining processes for project approvals and also by means of its FIT (feed-in-tariff) program and the GEA (Green Energy Act). The Amherstburg solar park is the other solar installation project that would become one of the largest solar farms till date in Canada. Additionally, SunPower Corp. is likely to complete construction on its $130 million solar project with capacity of 20 MW by June 2011.
