Pyramid Lake Tribal Council, a small residential community in Nixon, Nevada, was in the public glare by taking initiative to install green energy sources. Black Rock Solar a not-for-profit company, working for the implementation of renewable energy sources, has installed 1737 solar panels in the shape of an arrow over the top of the museum. The agency has also trained the community members to work in the green energy field.
According to a press release from NV Energy, the seven modules installed over the museum is expected produce 487,800 kilowatt hours of power annually which will meet the power requirements of the museum, a clinic and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe's high school. In addition to meeting the power requirement of 54 households in the community, it is expected to reduce the annual spending of the community on power by $72,800.and will allow them to receive $1,355,000 rebate from the solar generation program of NV Energy to equalize the cost of, 271 kW solar energy and provide services, such as language programs, improving facilities at the Museum, construction of parks and recreation services for the elders in the community.
The members of the tribe celebrated the installation of solar modules on 22nd July.
Mary Simmons, who leads NV Energy as its Vice President of external affairs, said the Nevada Legislature and the state utility regulators are committed to make Nevada a leading player in renewal energy and the current initiative is the result of their efforts. She also appreciated the efforts of Black Rock Solar for providing the solar energy products to the community.
