The Munsee-Delaware Nation, a small Indian reserve located west of St. Thomas Ontario, Canada, has opened the Munsee Tree Corporation with the partnership of Tree Canada, Southern First Nations Secretariat (SFNS) and TD Bank Financial Group.
The Munsee tree, a high yielding and fast growing tree, is used for renewable biomass energy production. The Munsee Tree Corporation will cultivate the trees, harvest the tree cuttings and other biomass and vend them. They also plan to generate large amount of carbon credits that can be traded with bigger corporations, compensating their greenhouse gas discharges. The corporation initially started as a joint venture with SFNS owned Newco and the Munsee-Delaware Nation is more focused in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, green energy and economic growth of the community.
The formation of Munsee Tree extended additional alliances that led the Delaware Nation to proclaim their objective to work intimately with Tree Canada and TD all through the preliminary stage of development.
Patrick Waddilove, Chief of Munsee-Delaware Nation, explained that Munsee Tree enables green environment and delivers, for the growth of the national economy. He added that Munsee Tree is formed with the perseverance and hard work of the people. He expressed his hopes that Delaware Nation will persist in building and developing partnerships that will help the nation as well as the world.
