IDEA Appreciates Newly Passed Thermal Renewable Energy and Efficiency Act (TREEA)

The International District Energy Association (IDEA) has appreciated the introduction of the Thermal Renewable Energy and Efficiency Act (TREEA) by Senators Kit Bond, Al Franken and Representatives Paul Tonko, Jay Inslee and Betty McCollum.

This legislation recognizes the environmental as well as the economical importance of thermal energy and also creates policies for supporting the expanded usage of district energy as well as combined power and heat systems.

The TREEA offers a huge opportunity for improving energy efficiency, increasing energy security and also reducing the emission of greenhouse gases through sources of renewable thermal energy, combined heat and power as well as other technologies that are energy efficient.

The TREEA would expand tax-exempt bonding; develop a renewable thermal energy generation tax credit; and reauthorize and expand the energy efficiency and sustainability grants of the Department of Energy.
