The Philippines Science High School alumni batch of 1985, the Jubilarian Batch for 2010, has donated to the school’s main campus a non-utility Solar Energy Augmented Lighting System. This donation was made through the guidance of the Wilfred and Bonnie Uytengsu Foundation.
This solar project has been divided into two phases, wherein the first phase is the Light-Emitting Diode Lighting Retrofit and Solar Photovoltaic Grid-Tied System Project meant for the Administration Building, while the second phase is the Stand-Alone, Off-Grid Solar Powered LED Roadway Lighting System.
The first phase will involve replacing traditional lamps with LED Ecolight downlight in 200 units with 1,000 W in overall wattage. In the second phase, solar-powered LED streetlights will be installed that are made of solar modules whose role is to generate solar energy.
The vision for the Philippines Science High School is to remain an environment-friendly institution while highlighting renewable energy. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to reduce the school’s carbon footprint by 7.5 tons of CO2 annually.
