Unity College to Return Carter Solar Panels to White House

Unity College is organizing a soirée at its college campus on 5th August to bequeath two solar panels that were once positioned atop the white house, to the People of China and Solar Energy Industries Association of America.

On behalf of the People of China, Chairman of Himin Solar Energy Group in China, Mr. Huang Ming, will receive the panel and a SEIA will receive the panel through one of its representatives from Washington DC.

The function planned at Unity College campus is expected to be graced by well known guests including the 39th President of USA Jimmy Carter, Governor John Baldacci, a delegation of senators of Maine and other guests. According to a recently released documentary, ‘A Road Not Taken’, Jimmy Carter had installed the panels over White House, as a symbol of new solar strategy during his tenure. Earlier the Unity College had received the two solar panels that were once used by Jimmy Carter at the White house as contribution and used it in its premises.

The event, intended at Unity has a link with the 350.org team’s Global Work Party scheduled on 10th October. The organization has arranged a campaign called ‘Put Solar On It,’ requesting the heads of states to arrange installation of solar panes at their residences. A California based company has agreed to donate solar panels for installation at the White House. The Unity College plans to return the Solar Panels during early September by organizing a Solar Road spree which will be attended by a small group of students and others from the College along with the “Put Solar On It”, team members to Washington DC, while organizing related events in the premeditated route.
