The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), has set up an archetypal solar awning charging station in North America to charge e-bikes, electric cars and other handy personal electronic instruments.
This canopy is installed with cooperative endeavors of the SANYO North America Corporation (SANYO), Portland General Electric (PGE), and InSpec Group (InSpec).
The canopy parking installed at OMSI utilizes 42 SANYO Hit Double 195 modules, with a total estimated capacity of producing 8.2 kWh. The albedo parking surface is expected to produce an annual output of between 7,800 and 10,000 kWh. SANYO has utilized the solar panels manufactured and assembled at its manufacturing plant located in Salem Oregon. The solar awning set up at OMST south side parking space, sports a number of weather protected lockers with 120V AC charging outlets. Two of the lockers are designed for the exclusive use of charging three eneloop bikes (pedal-assist hybrid electric bicycles) gifted to OMSI by SANYO. OMSI has plans to use the eneloop bikes for its personal use, and to demonstrate the idea of recharging and utilizing eco friendly electric vehicles.
Sam Murata, SANYO North America Corporation’s president, called the project, a perfect example for working together to find a way for an ideal energy solution. He said, the highly efficient solar panels provided by the company jelled perfectly with the design of InSpec to meet the requirements of visitors utilizing OMSI facilities and allowed them to become familiar with electric charging utilizing solar panels.
