Japan to Construct Biofuel Facility in East Java, Indonesia

Japan has pledged an assistance of $16 million in the form of working capital, equipment and machinery towards the development of a biofuel production plant in Java, Indonesia. This plant is slated for producing biofuels from sugar industry’s byproducts.

NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) will help Indonesia in the process of converting molasses into biofuel from the sugar factories. Factories located in East Java, Indonesia generally produce around 200,000 tons of molasses annually while this gets close to approximately 400,000 tons when combined with the produce from farmers.

The biofuel thus produced from the East Java-plant will be utilized for meeting Indonesia’s domestic needs. NEDO has chosen Sapporo Engineering dan Sukisimaki Kai for the construction of this facility. This biofuel project is anticipated to cost about $25 million while the 10th State Plantation Firm will be preparing $9 million for this project.
