SunPower Installs Patented T20 Tracker System to Increase Solar Output By 30%

SunPower Corporation, , completed a 505 kW solar power installation project for Horizon Power, an utility company owned by the government and engaged in supplying electric power to the local communities living in inaccessible places of Western Australia and for its own resource processes.

SunPower Corporation has installed the ground fixed type of SunPower T20 Tracker systems at Nullagine and Marble Bar located in East Pilbara region of Western Australia and put it for use this year. The system was built utilizing SunPower solar panels along with the patented T20 Tracker system. The T20 Tracker continuously tracks the movement of the sun during the day and receives at least 30% more solar energy than the conventionally operated fixed tilt systems and so reduces land occupancy for increasing the number of solar installations due to its compact build. The two power stations will produce a total of 1,048 MW of solar energy per year that meets approximately 60 to 90% of the local daily energy requirement. The project implemented by the Office of Energy in Western Australia has received the full fledged support of Australian Government through the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program.

Bob Blakiston, SunPower Australia’s Managing Director, felt proud in installing the largest and Australia’s first T20 tracker system. He praised the insight of Horizon Power for receiving Western Australia Sustainable Energy Association award for covering remote regional areas of the country with solar power.
