Suntech Power Holdings Co, a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar panels, has been chosen to provide 34.5 MW of solar panels for use, during the first phase of the proposed solar power plant in Thailand.
The proposed plant will be owned and operated by Bangchak petroleum Public Co Ltd, an incorporated company of Solartron Public Co., Ltd. The solar plant will have a planned capacity of 44 MW and an output capacity of 38 MW power output and will be situated in close proximity to the city of Bangkok.
Dr. Wunrattana Chanukul, Energy Minister of Thailand, has made the announcement about the project during the ground-breaking function. The plant is expected to be completed and commissioned during the year 2011. On completion, it is expected to sustain the motivated plans of Thailand to achieve 20% energy production from renewable energy sources by the year 2022. During the launching ceremony, Dr. Anusorn Sangnimnuan, Bangchak Petroleum Public Co., Ltd’s., CEO, considers renewable energy technologies as vital elements of continuing development policy of Bangkok. He explained the intention of his company for a longstanding partnership with Suntech for more such utility scale projects for the development of Thailand.
Mrs. Patama Wongtoythong, who leads Solartron, another solar solution providing company at Thailand as its CEO, said that a project of such magnitude requires strong and dependable solar modules that can offer lasting performance. She added that her company was impressed with the performance track record and warranty for power output offered by Suntech.
