More number of companies are opting for battery solutions to store energy generated from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Recent announcement by two companies indicate that more number of companies will choose the battery storing option in future.
International Battery, a renowned battery manufacturing company based at Pennsylvania, has declared that Princeton Power Systems, a company engaged in the manufacture of power electric systems which will utilize the batteries manufactured by International Battery along with the new solar energy system installed at the headquarters of Princeton Power in New Jersey. The 200 kW solar array systems, installed at a.0 cost of $1.5M will be connected to the utility company Public Service Enterprise Group. Princeton Power said that the newly installed system will manage functions such as demand response, microgrid operation, frequency regulation, time shifting and power dispatch. The company is planning to house the energy system in a mobile unit that has the feature to increase the storing capability up to 1 MW.
Similarly GS Battery has announced its plans to participate, in a test utilizing batteries to support a tiny 17 kW photovoltaic system that is currently utilized to power Aperture Center at Mesa del Sol situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Currently the test is being conducted, utilizing a $75,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and has participative members such as GS Battery (USA) Inc, Mesa del Sol and Sandia National Laboratories. On completion of the installation, Sandia National Laboratories will supervise and collect data from the test for three years to assess the feasibility of installing such type of power systems in commercial buildings in United States.
