UkrHydroEnergo, an Ukrainian hydroelectric generating company, has given a $28 million contract to Emerson Process Management, a business of Emerson, for managing and controlling 100 turbine generators located in nine different hydroelectric power plants.
This agreement forms part of the Hydropower Rehabilitation Project of UkrHydroEnergo for upgrading and modernizing eight power plants that were constructed during 1939 and 1975 as well as the Dnestrovskaya hydroelectric power plant constructed in 1983. Funding for this project is being offered by a World Bank loan to the Ukrainian government.
With an overall capacity of 4,639 MW, the nine power plants provide more than 90% of the hydroelectric generating capacity of Ukraine. The automation technology of Emerson will assist UkrHydroEnergo enhance information access and improve process control for these plants.
An Ovation system will monitor and control the nine UkrHydroEnergo hydroelectric plant facilities, while the integration and communication of information from the 100 turbine generators will be performed by Ovation supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology. Some of the technologies of Emerson that will be used for this project comprise AMS Suite predictive maintenance software, CSI vibration monitoring systems and Rosemount measurement instrumentation.
