Nevada’s Geothermal Market Poised for Significant Growth

The geothermal market of Nevada State is poised to witness significant growth. Nevada has a total installed capacity in excess of 400 MW. In terms of ability and position, Nevada stands second only to California in terms of taking geothermal heat and converting it into electricity.

The Geothermal Energy Association has observed that the Silver State is slated for a significant increase in its share of geothermal capacity which currently stands at 13% in the U.S. With 86 projects presently under the development pipeline, the state can boast of a potential geothermal capacity that ranges from 2,120 MW to 3,686 MW.

Nevada is growing quickly, thanks to a large influx of developers of geothermal energy into the state. Approximately 20 companies are currently involved in geothermal activities, by way of operating plants or having projects under development. Nevada’s ability in attracting geothermal companies has been credited to not only the bountiful geothermal resources but also to the well-trained labor force as well as allotment of land by the state.
