The Dow Chemical Company, engaged in providing products for clean water, increasing agricultural productivity and renewable energy generation and conservation, has joined hands with Interfilm Holdings inc., a company that received Orion Energy Systems’ Environmental Stewardship Award, for purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) to counterbalance the use of conventional energy spent at their Ohio plant in the manufacture of PROCITETM Window Envelope Films. The RECs are authenticated through a third party and fulfills the audit process requirements of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The renewable energy credits are introduced for reducing ecological consequences of utilizing conventional electricity. Every REC is equivalent to the generation of one MWh energy produced from renewable energy sources and supplied to the grid. The RECs purchased by Dow and Interfilm to countervail the energy consumption for the production of PROCITETM film is comparable to the power utilized by 725 U.S. homes for a year. For attaining its premeditated 2015 sustainability goals and to provide easy to implement solutions in clean and sustainable energy sectors, Dow has taken several active and designed steps, and purchase of RECs is one among them.
Richard M. Martin, Vice President of Sales at Interfilm, said that their envelope clients by just choosing PROCITE film to cover their windows can support clean energy manufacturing processes. Luiz Stortini, who holds the position of Global Business Director in Dow Specialty Packaging and Films, said that the initiative of his company towards green energy does not confine to the supply chain from Interfilm to the manufacturers of envelopes and it goes beyond it to eventually to reach the clients.
