SOLON Corporation, a Tucson-based company, has signed an agreement with Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP), to construct a modular type of solar plant at Tucson to produce 1.6 MW power. The proposed plant will incorporate Solon systems and modules and tender cost effective solar power to TEP for supply to the households in Tucson
As per the agreement SOLON will offer acquisition, building and technical services for the proposed plant. The plant will feature SOLON’s Velocity MW Solar System that consists of standardized clusters to reduce the number of components and correspondingly the installation costs. Also every Velocity MW cluster of this system allows localized group power conversion facility for the inverter and the step-up transformer for easy and quicker field assembly of the system and higher level of performance than other normal systems. The plant will incorporate 11 numbers of single axis trackers and 5808 numbers of 285 W solar modules produced at its Tucson plant.
Dan Alcombright, who holds the position of Regional Vice President and General Manager, in SOLON, said that his company has exclusively produced the Velocity MW System to work with utility companies such as TEP to ameliorate their reaction to the requirements of peak load demand and to fulfill their clean energy objectives. He added that by the use of Velocity MW System they intend to deliver quicker and reliable solar energy to the TEP grid.
