Ontario Draws Green, Clean Energy Production Facilities

Ontario’s wind turbine blade production plant, the first-ever facility in the province, along with a new manufacturing facility for solar modules will be serving Ontario’s growing green, clean energy industry while creating around 1,400 jobs.

Canadian Solar Inc. has selected the location of Guelph for the first module facility to feature in North America, while creating around 500 jobs. This follows the announcements made by Samsung and Siemens towards building production plants for wind turbine blades in Ontario, which will help create around 900 jobs, directly and indirectly. Several other firms have also announced plans for setting up or expanding wind turbine and solar manufacturing facilities with location in Ontario.

Companies wanting to secure FIT (Feed-in Tariff) contracts for clean energy will have to utilize Ontario products as well as services for their projects at a specific percentage. The already announced 694 renewable energy contracts are anticipated to create about 20,000 indirect as well as direct green economy jobs in the next half decade while bringing private sector investment of around $9 billion. The projects will be generating enough electricity every year towards powering 600,000 homes. This comes under the Open Ontario plan towards creating a clean energy economy in the province.
