Earlier, electricity regulating authority SIE gave permission to Parques Eólicos del Caribe (Pecasa) to construct a 40 MW wind project at Guayubín in Montecristi besides a 50 MW Barrancón project La Isabela in Puerto Plata province. In the Pecasa project Gamesa, a Spanish wind turbine manufacturing company has 57% stake while a city based company Grupo BHD owns 29% and the balance stakes are held by investors from the country.
