Enrique Ramirez the Director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), a energy regulatory organization of Dominican Republic, has declared that within the next three years the proposed three wind plants will commence their power production operations and tender over 113 MW of electric power to the grid. As per the statement issued by Ramirez the first wind turbine will be installed at Pedernales and the other two wind farms will function from Bani and Puerto Plata.
The CNE has chosen Parques Eólicos del Caribe to build a 50 MW wind turbine project in Montecristi province of the Dominican Republic. Earlier, electricity regulating authority SIE gave permission to Parques Eólicos del Caribe (Pecasa) to construct a 40 MW wind project at Guayubín in Montecristi besides a 50 MW Barrancón project La Isabela in Puerto Plata province. In the Pecasa project Gamesa, a Spanish wind turbine manufacturing company has 57% stake while a city based company Grupo BHD owns 29% and the balance stakes are held by investors from the country. Earlier, Vestas a wind turbine manufacturing company had received orders for the supply of 14 units of the V90-1.8 MW wind turbine project located at Los Cocos and the order was placed by Electricity Generating Company Haina, SA one of the electricity producing companies in Dominican Republic.
The National Energy Commission (CNE) has presented an energy plan during 2004 forecasting the power supply and demand of the country for the next 10 years and fixed 10,000 MW as the objective for clean energy power production before the year 2015.
