U.S. Geothermal Receives Approval for San Emidio Project

The Washoe County Planning Commission has given the Special Use Permit to U.S. Geothermal Inc. for constructing Phase I of the power plant with 8.6 MW capacity in Nevada at the San Emidio Project. U.S. Geothermal is a renewable energy company that focuses on the production, development as well as sale of electricity generated from geothermal energy.

The construction work on the project is expected to begin by Q3 of 2010 in order to qualify for the Federal ITC grant while the final completion has been scheduled for Q4 of 2011.

The second phase of development of this project requires further drilling as well as resource development. In 2009, U.S. Geothermal received $3.77 million by means of the Department of Energy Innovative Exploration Grant for this project. At full development, the two-phase program at San Emidio will result in an overall electricity generation capacity of 35 MW.
