Moser Baer Ltd, an Indian company producing computer parts to manufacturing solar panels, is expected to receive an investment of $300 million from Blackstone a private equity company. Earlier Moser Baer had expressed its objective of enlarging its solar panel fabricating facilities.
This investment coincides with the Indian government’s announcement on National Solar Mission to install 20,000 MW solar power capabilities by the year 2022 and the project developers can enjoy best tariff rates only if they employ solar cells and other equipment fabricated by Indian companies.
Moser Baer had started its solar film manufacturing factory in the year 2007 and set up its assembly line to manufacture crystalline silicon and thin film solar cells. The factory started in the name of Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Limited has earlier produced a thin film solar panel measuring 2.6 M x 2.2 M considered to be the biggest thin film solar panel in the world to produce 390 W of power. The company has an established assembly line to produce 40 MW worth thin solar film annually.
The company has a manufacturing facility at Maharashtra, India, and exports its solar panels and roof top installations to countries such as Germany, Italy and the Netherlands in addition to supplying them for usage within India.
